GDACSmobile is a mobile-enabled IT solution for the assessment of needs, issues of access, infrastructure damage and other cross-cutting operational issues. In contrast to similar tools, e.g. Ushahidi or KoBoToolbox, GDACSmobile is an integrated solution for both the general public and professional responders, which closes the information cycle between disaster managers and the affected population. After all, 90 percent of first responders are local people.
The app is usable offline and only needs internet access for report transmission. The customizable mobile interface enables headquarters to effectively steer information collection towards the benefit of marginalized and especially vulnerable parts of the population. Reports that come in directly from the affected population may be moderated for higher data quality. Cleaning the incoming data is easy, because data entry is guided by a defined structure that can be adapted to various assessment methodologies.
